Overview of Khopra Danda Trek

Khopra Danda Trek is one of the newly opened trekking routes of Nepal in the Annapurna Region that is separated from the Tadapani to Khpra among the other trekking routes of the Annapurna Region. Khopra Hill Trek, Kayer Lake Trek, Khopra Ridge Trek, Khopra Community Trek and the Khorpa Danda Trek all are of the same route names. Annapurna Region Trekking is one of the most popular treks in the world and so of this trek equally bears the significance and satisfies the expectations heavenly. It has its own importance being less travelled by and the untouched and unexplored region equally adds its value for the trek lovers.

The magnificent panoramic views from the Khopra Danda ridge and the 360-degree sunrise view from the Poon Hill are the major attractions of this route. The less travelled route and the region with its people, their culture, traditions and their lifestyle is another attraction of this trekking route. Similarly, exploring the Khayer Lake would be phenomenon moment of this trek. The glowing views of the towering snowcapped mountains including Mt. Dhaulagir (8167m), Annapurna I (8091m), II, III and South (7219m), Mt. Hiunchuli, Mt. Machhapuchchhre (6993m), Lamjung Himal, Fang and Mt. Nilgiri (7061m) are one of the best moments of the trek. Ghandruk, the biggest Gurung settlement of this region is not less than a charismatic village decorated by chortens and prayer flags with unique and ancient Buddhist monasteries where as the slate and stones made houses add its beauty and the true heart and innocent ever smiling people make this village to visit once. Green hills, terraced farmlands, pasturelands, dense forests filled with rhododendrons, oak, pines and bamboos also make this trek memorable.

Accommodations:

A three star hotel facility is provided while you are in Kathmandu and Pokhara where as tea house/Community run Lodges/ Home Stay facility is provided during the trek days. All the accommodations are provided on twin-shared basis with attached washrooms but on higher elevation, you may use the shared washrooms. Single accommodation is provided upon your request with additional cost. Single rooms are easily available in Kathmandu and Pokhara where as supplement while in the trek days depend on the availability.

Meals:

Normally, breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided during the trek days that consist of typical Nepalese foods as well as some of the common international foods (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian etc) and only breakfast is provide while you are in Kathmandu and Pokhara. We will provide you the hygienic and best available food as per the availability. Breakfast and dinner is provided from the lodge where you stay for night where as lunch is provided during your trek to next destination on midway.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements:

Khopra Danda Trek is a moderate trek suitable for all trek lovers who have ability to walk around 6-7 hours a day with a light backpack. Walking in the rough trails in the ridge with high altitude is more physically demanding than walking on lower elevations. Although, if you are in excellent health condition with average physical fitness with positive attitude to accomplish the trek, self-confidence and highly motivated, you can make this trek accomplished. Past hiking experience would be an asset but not compulsory but suggest you to follow some of the stamina growing physical activities 2-3 months prior to your trek date. Participants with lung disease, blood diseases and ankle problems should consult to their doctor and should inform to us before booking the trek date.

Day 01: Welcome to the Land of Himalayas-Nepal (Altitude: 1360m)

Accommodation: Tourist Hotel

Welcome to Kathmandu, Nepal. Upon your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport, one of our officials will be there to welcome you as per the flight details you provided to us and board you to the hotel. You can hang around the city in your leisure time. We will arrange a welcome dinner at the evening while the trek briefing will be given at the same time.

Day 02: Kathmandu to Pokhara (Altitude: 900m)

Accommodation: Tourist Hotel

Meals: Breakfast

Drive: 6-7 Hours

 We will take an early breakfast to board in our tourist coach at 7 am. The 128 miles long drive is full of joy that follows the Marsyangdi and Trishuli River banks with various changing natural sceneries of rivers, hills, paddy fields, villages and small market places. Upon your arrival at Pokhara, you will be transferred to hotel. You can hang around Lakeside- the popular tourist spot in Pokhara. Stay overnight at Pokhara.

Day 03: Drive to Nayapul and Trek to Ghandruk (Altitude: 1850m)

Accommodation: Teahouse/Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Drive and Walk: 1.5 Hours Drive and 4 Hours Walk

After breakfast, we will take a drive of one and half hour through a zigzag route over the middle of the hills to Nayapool from Pokhara to begin our trek. Now, we follow the trekking route to Ghandruk through Birethanti a prosperous riverside village on the bank of Modi Khola. Walk upstream through terraced paddy fields to Syauli Bazaar, then cross the suspension bridge and ascend, with breathtaking views of Machhapuchchhre (Fish tail), Hiunchuli and Annapurna South. Ghandruk is the beautiful and the biggest Gurung settlement of the Annapurna Region beautifully decorated with chortens, prayer flags and the houses made of slates and stones. The people are innocent, true hearted and ever smiling faces surely wins your heart. We will also explore the Gurung museum and with great views of the valley gorge – and tomorrow’s trail. Stay overnight at Ghandruk.

Day 04: Trek from Ghandruk to Tadapani (Altitude: 2610m)

Accommodation: Teahouse/Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

After having the breakfast, we will follow the trail that follows the rhododendron forest and reach at Bhaisi Kharka. We then continue our trek to Tadapani where you will have sunrise and sunset views of the gorgeous Mountains including Mt. Fishtail, Annapurna and Hiunchuli. Stay tonight at Tadapani.

Day 05: Trek from Tadapani to Bayeli Kharka (Altitude: 3450m)

Accommodation: Teahouse/Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Walking Hours: 6-7 Hours

After having the breakfast, we will head towards Bayeli Kharka leaving the main trail of Annapurna Region that leads to Ghorepani and follow the rarely used small trail that goes through dense rhododendron forest and reach to local water buffalo pasture. We head upward on a gentle pace and reach above the tree line from where you will have a superb view of the Annapurna Range. The trail then follows gradual uphill climb through open countryside and reach a small pass from where the trail descends down through rhododendron forest finally taking us to the Bayeli Kharka. You can have a magnificent view of Dhaulagiri Himal. Stay overnight at Bayeli Kharka.

Day 06: Trek from Bayeli Kharka to Upper Chistibung (Altitude: 2950m)

Accommodation: Teahouse/Lodge/Home stay

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Walking Hours: 5-6 Hours

After breakfast, we start our trek to Upper Chistibung. The trail descends down through an open ground and forest passing pastures to reach Lower Chistibung. The trail then starts gradual ascend passing through many buffalo grazing pastures and reach Upper Chistibung. We will stay in a community run lodge or home-stay. Because of the less travelled route, lodges were not opened in this trail. For next few days, we will stay either in home-stay or community run lodges for which the travel agencies from various parts of the country contributed from their side so that the communities of the route benefit from the tourist activities and the profit to contribute the local development projects.

Day 07: Trek from Upper Chistibung to Khorpa Danda (Altitude: 3660m)

Accommodation: Community Lodge/Home stay

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Walking Hours: 5-6 Hours

Today’s trek starts with a gentle climb that brings us above the tree line which is specific for the wildlife. You may encounter with the Himalayan Thar and the colorful bird Danfe- the national bird of Nepal. As the trail is steadily uphill climbing, we will take rest as often as required. Continuous walking on the trail finally brings us to the Khorpa Danda and a short walk to the Khorpa Ridge from where you will be greeted with extraordinary panoramic views of the towering snowcapped mountains including Mt. Annapurna South standing just above you at a distance of only 6 km, Mt. Fang and Nilgiri. Across the depths of the Kali Gandaki Valley, the Mt. Dhaulagiri spreads all around the western skyline. Stay overnight enjoying the best of nature at Khorpa Danda.

Day 08: Sightseeing Tour to Khayer Lake (Altitude: 4500m)

Accommodation:  Community Lodge/ Home stay

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Walking Hours: 9-10 Hours/5-6 Hours

Today, we will head towards Khayer Lake early in the morning at around 6 am. Khayer Lake is a popular sacred religious lake for Hindu as well as Buddhists followers. There is belief among the followers that if one takes bath in the lake he/she attains Nirvana. As these two religions are homogeneous in many aspects, we can see number of Hindu and Buddhists shrines on the Khayer Lakeside. We will have a fabulous view of the Mt. Fang and other surrounding mountains from Khayer Lake.

Khayer Lake trek is a physically demanding route hence we suggest you to participate in this route if you are perfectly fit as it takes 9-10 hours walk and not lodges and teahouses found in between the trek. We will pack necessary foods for the day from Khorpa Danda lodge. For those who don’t want to walk all the way to Khayer Lake, we can arrange alternative trek of about 5-6 hours walk all the way to Thanti (4210m). Tonight at Khorpa Community Lodge.

Day 09: Trek from Khorpa Danda to Swanta Village (Altitude: 2200m)

Accommodation: Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Walking Hours: 5-6 Hours

After the breakfast, we follow the trail descending off the hillside on a steep trail enjoying the fabulous view of Mt. Dhaulagiri on the backdrop. We continue our trek through terraced fields and rural settlements of houses built up with traditional way. We follow the same trail up till Chistibung and then trail ascends to Swanta Village where we will spend the night.

Day 10: Trek from Swanta Village to Ghorepani (Altitude: 2820m)

Accommodation: Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Walking Hours:  6 Hours

With the breakfast finished, we will start our trek to Swanta. The trail descends through terrace fields to a river where we will explore the local water mill used to beat food grains. We cross the river over a suspension bridge and head towards the Chitre village inhabited by Magar and Poon ethnic groups. We then follow the main trekking trail of the Annapurna region and join the trail to Ghorepani. Continue uphill climbing on the route brings us to the Ghorepani village. The eye-catching view of Dhaulagiri massif from Ghorepani is awesome. We will stay a night at Ghorepani.

Day 11: Trek to Poon Hill and Retrace back to Tikhedhunga (Altitude: 1560m)

Accommodation: Tahouse/Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Walking Hours: 5-6 Hours

We will leave Ghorepani early in the morning before dawn towards Poon Hill at an elevation of 3210m. Poon Hill view point gives the most magnificent sunrise view of the entire Annapurna region. The golden snowcapped peaks with the first light of the rising sun come into life. The mesmerizing panoramic 360-degree views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range with the splendid landscape view. This photographer’s paradise glows with the first ray of the sunlight in the summit of the snowcapped mountains and the feeling is heavenly. After spending some time on the hill top and enjoying the fabulous moments and keeping the lifetime memory, we will retrace back to the lodge at Ghorepani. After having the breakfast, we will head towards Tikhedhunga walking along ridges and rhododendron forest and a large Magar village-Ulleri. Stay overnight at Tikhedhunga.

Day 12: Trek from Tikhedhunga to Pokhara via Nayapul

Accommodation: Tourist Hotel

Meals: Breakfast

Walking and Drive: 2-3 Hours/1and Half Hours

After the breakfast, we start our trek to Nayapul on an easy trail. Continuous waling of 2- 3 hours brings us to Nayapul from where we will take a taxi for one and half hour drive to Pokhara. Hang around the beautiful lake city and enjoy your leisure time.

Day 13: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Accommodation: Tourist Hotel

Meals: Breakfast

Drive: 6-7 Hours

We will take an early breakfast to board in our tourist coach at 7 am. The 128 miles long drive is full of joy that follows the Marsyangdi and Trishuli River banks with various changing natural sceneries of rivers, hills, paddy fields, villages and small market places. Upon your arrival at Kathmandu, you will be transferred to hotel. You can hang around Thamel- the popular tourist spot in Kathmandu and make your last minute shopping. In the evening, we will have small gathering focusing on the valuable feedback of the trek from your side and a farewell dinner to celebrate your successful accomplishment of the trek from our side.

Day 14: Final Departure

Today, our trek finishes officially as per the itinerary. If you are planning to stay some extra days in Nepal, you can consult us and we are always ready to serve our client as per their demand or if you are leaving our country, one of our staffs will drop you at the airport before 3 hours to your scheduled flight.

Important Note: Your safety is our prominent concern and duty. The scheduled itinerary is subject to change. The changes on itinerary may occur due to the change in weather, trekking members’ health problem, sudden natural disaster etc or any other emergency situation.  Trekking leader has the right to take immediate action if such situation arises. However, every effort will be made to cope with the above itinerary. We request you all to separate some additional days to balance for such emergency situations.
