Overview of Langtang Valley Trekking

Langtang Valley Trek, also known as the valley of glaciers trek, is one of the enjoyable short trekking routes in Nepal that is one of the most demanded and most loved trekking routes of the country. Being the nearest trekking route from Kathmandu Valley (Only 19 miles north) at the south to the Tibetan border, offers the Himalayan range to the north and to some extent lower range of snow capped mountains to the south. The Mt. Langtang Lirung (7246m) has the single domination to the whole valley and besides the trek offers you the pine forest, mountain streams, towering snow-covered mountain peaks, homemade cheese factories, monasteries, glaciers, grassy lawn and meadows along with indigenous Tamang and Tibetan Sherpa and their Buddhist culture.

Langtang Valley Trek takes an average time of 8 hours drive to reach the starting point at Syabrubesi from where the trail follows the Langtang River to the east. After 4 days continuous walking, after crossing the Kyangjin Gompa we reach at the Langtang Valley where you will visit the nearby monastery, glaciers and climb the Kyangjin Ri the next day from where you will have an astonishing 360-degree views of the Langtang region with the natural wonders of the region. The major peaks of this region are Langtang Lirung (7246m), Gang Chhenpo (6388m), Naya Kanga Ri (5846m) and the only 8000m peak in Tibet the Mt. Shisha Pangma.

Most of the trekking routes follow the remote areas of the country so as the Langtang Valley Trek and offers an exhilarating moment at high altitude through many rivers, thundering waterfalls, gorge, rhododendron and bamboo forest and glacial moraine, lakes like Gosainkunda and the beautiful valley-Helambu with the views of some of the rarest plants and animals in the Langtang National Park. Among them are the monkeys, musk deer, pika, Himalayan bear, rarest red panda and the colorful national bird Danphe. Further the trek drives you to the breathtaking view of ice flutes of Gyangchempo.

If you are making your first trip to Nepal then the Langtang Valley Trek could be the best choice for you and for those who wish to trek off the beaten track and see something completely different to many of the noisy tourist areas, this is the perfect spot for them.

Food and Accommodation:

A three star hotel or similar facility is provided during your stay in Kathmandu whereas Teahouse/Lodges facility is provided during the trek. All accommodation is twin-shared basis and single room is provided on your request with additional cost. Single rooms are easily available at the city area whereas it is difficult at the higher elevation.
Hygienic foods are provided during the trekking days. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided during the trek. Most common food is Nepali typical Dal, Bhat and Tarkari whereas common international cuisine (Chinese, Italian, Continental, Indian etc.) are also available. You will be provided the best food available as per the menu. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners from our side.

Health and Physical Requirements:

Langtang Valley trek is a moderate trek favorable for individual, family and group who have the ability to walk 6-7 hours a day with a light back-pack. Walking in higher elevation demands more physical fitness however if you are in excellent health with average physical fitness with positive attitude you can make this trek. Exercising and jogging regularly 2-3 months prior to the trek date is a good idea to enhance your stamina. Past trekking experience is not compulsory though certainly helpful. If you are suffering from heart, blood diseases and lung problems should consult to your doctor and inform to us before you book the trekking date.

Day 01: Welcome to the Land of Himalayas (Altitude: 1360m)

Accommodation: Tourist Hotel at Kathmandu

Meals: Dinner

We will be at the airport to welcome you to Kathmandu, the city of temples and deities of primal and medieval period. We will arrange transport facility for you to board you to the hotel. There will be a meeting with the Graceful Adventure for the discussion about the trek at the evening with welcome dinner.

Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (Altitude: 1460m)

Accommodation: Lodge

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Drive: 6-7 Hours

Wake up early in the morning and have your breakfast. We will catch up our coach at 7 am. Have scenic views throughout the drive that goes through the Trishuli Valley. When you arrive at the Kakani, the Mt. Annapurna II, Manaslu and Ganesh Himal are visible in the far distance. Having enjoyed with the amazing view of mountains, farm lands, hills, rivers and typical stone houses we will reach at Syabrubesi, the traditional gateway to Langtang and Gosaikunda. Stay overnight at Syabrubesi.

Day 03: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (Altitude: 2560m)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Walking Hours: 6- 7hours

Our first day trek starts just after the breakfast with an ascending alongside the Langtang River, which we follow most of the days of our trekking,  and the bamboo forest till we cross the river over the suspension bridge. Soon then, we reach at Bamboo village. The path is well-stabilized. You can see the wild bee hives hanging on the cliff could be an amazing experience for you. Similarly, the hike today may bring you to the sight of some of the amazing wildlife like red panda; monkey and Himalayan black bear.The trail also passes through dense sub-tropical forest full of oak, maple, fir and pine trees and crosses few suspension bridges. The trail then follows a steep climbing that brings us to the Lama Hotel.

Day 04: Trek to Langtang Valley (Altitude: 3455m)

Walking Hours: 6-7 hours

 After the breakfast, we head towards the Langtang Valley. The trekking route today is pleasant and takes us across the Bhotekoshi which originates from Tibet and lies in a deep gorge. The trail then follows through beautiful rhododendron, oak, maple, hemlock and pine forest for around three hours where you can enjoy the bird life and the view of Mt. Langtang Lirung all the time. One of these birds is the colorful Danphe-the national bird of the country. We also pass by scattered Tamang villages and then cross suspension bridge to finally reach the Tamang village of Langtang. Stay overnight at Langtang.

Day 05: Trek from Langtang to Kyangjin Gompa (Altitude: )

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Walking Hours: 5-6 Hours

After having the breakfast, our trail ascends and passes Dindum and Yamphu and then crosses the Laja Khola. This trek allows you to assimilate with a more typically Himalayan landscape and as the altitude gains widespread thin grasses, juniper and shrubs serve the landscape. One of the most dramatic moments of the trek is waiting ahead. As the trail scale a glacial moraine for epic views of the Kyangjin Gompa and icefall following from the Mt. Langtang Lirung. Awesome moment is captured of the icefall and the Kyangjin Gompa-the home of a well-known Buddhist monastery. You will also have chance to view the Mt. Ganchempo, Mt. Yubra, Naya Kanga and Mt. Langtang Lirung from Kyangjin Gompa. We will visit a local yak-cheese factory. Climbing to the Kyangjin Ri peak is optional for everybody which lies at the north of the Gompa. Overnight at logde.

Day 06: Exploration Day

Walking Hour: – 7-8 hours

 We will wake up early in the morning before dawn and have a quick breakfast so that we would be able to climb Chorka Ri peak and have a mesmerizing sunrise views of the Langtang Himalayas just in front of us. Enjoy the lifetime memory of the phenomenal panorama views of the Langtang Valley, Mt. Langtang Lirung, Langshisa Ri, Naya Kang, Gyanghempo and Ganjala along with the glacial icefalls. Assimilate yourself with the glory of the nature around the Langtang valley. Touch it, fell it, sense it and keep it within you. We will retrace back to Kyangjin Gompa. Besides climbing the Chorka Ri peak, there are many other options for the trekkers. You can hike to Tserko Ri and visit Langshisha Kharka. Tonight at Kyangji Gompa.

Day 07: Trek from Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel

Accommodation: Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Walking Hours: 6-7 Hours

After having the breakfast, we will retrace back on the same trail to Lama Hotel. We descend down through the yak pasture until we reach at Langtang valley from where we continue our trek through the forested path and cross a suspension bridge to descend douwn to Thangshyap. Keep your eyes open for animal life and appreciate the marvelous loveliness and diversity of the marvelous wonder place. The route continues to descend until we reach at the Lama hotel.

Day 08: Trek to Syabrubesi

Accommodation: Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Walking Hours: 5-6 Hours

 After having the breakfast, we will retrace back to Syabrubesi with an easy walking as most of the trail follows the descending. The trail first follows the Thulo Syabru through dense forest that brings us to Pairo. The trail then slightly ascends and descends afterward through green bamboo and rhododendron forest. Enjoy the splendid view of Mt. Langtang Lirung in the background. The nature itself and the Tamang villages alongside of the trekking trail and the towering mountains in the background keep you refreshed the whole day.

Day 09: Drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Drive: 6-7 Hours

We will take our transport in the morning just after the breakfast. Enjoy the long journey with the scenic beauty alongside of the road. You will be transferred to hotel after you arrive at Kathmandu. Visit Thamel, the major tourist area of Kathmandu valley where you can make your last minute shopping as well. We will have a farewell dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant and discuss about the trekking achievement and take your feedback for our future reference.

Day 10: Final Departure

Today is the final departure day as per our itinerary but if you have further plan to stay in Nepal and wish to join in any of the programs, please let us know, we are always there to give our best service. If you are travelling back, then please make your baggage prepared. One of our officials will drop you at the airport 3 hours prior to the scheduled flight.

Important Note: Your safety is our prominent concern and duty. The scheduled itinerary is subject to change. The changes on itinerary may occur due to the change in weather, trekking members’ health problem, sudden natural disaster etc or any other emergency situation.  Trekking leader has the right to take immediate action if such situation arises. However, every effort will be made to cope with the above itinerary. We request you all to separate some additional days to balance for such emergency situations.
