Mt. Manaslu ascent is 64 km east of the Annapurna massif, lying between Gorkha and Manang districts. It is part of the Gorkha massif and stands 8,163 meters above sea level. Being the eighth highest mountain in the world, Manaslu has long ridges and valley glaciers and can be climbed from different sides despite being rocky in nature.
Mt. Manaslu is also known as ‘Kutang’ in Tibetan. Manaslu was named after the Nepali term ‘manasa,’ meaning ‘mountain of spirit.’ The mountain is most important in Japanese mountaineering history since it was first ascended by a Japanese expedition team led by Toshio Imanishi and Nepalese climber Gyalzen Norbu Sherpa. Just as Everest is famous among the British, Manaslu is famous among the Japanese climbers.
Manaslu is one of the steepest mountains, and there are great technical challenges to tackle. Climbers with experience on mountains above 6,000 meters are eligible to try the climb. As an alternative to Cho Oyu, Manaslu expedition offers one of the most thrilling and adventurous ascents in western Nepal in the Himalayan landscape.
The trek provides scenic views of the nearby Himalayan range with the peaks of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu North, Himal Chuli, and other well-known peaks. The trek follows old Himalayan trails over untouched scenery full of diverse flora and fauna. Nepal’s geography is very unique with a fascinating combination of topography, fauna, and ethnic groups. The trek takes the climbers beyond the “Tree Line Zone,” to the realm of snow, ice, and rocks, and promises a singular exposure of extreme heights and harsh climatic conditions. Manaslu trekking requires prompt logistics, communication management, and effective supporting team of highly skilled personnel.
Sherpa mountaineers are crucial in the success of expeditions with low failure rates. The climb demands great physical endurance since climbers must face tough ice structures and steep slopes. The climb demands necessary climbing gear such as crampons, ice axes, and ropes. The summit is highly technical and left for experienced mountaineers. Sherpas install ropes, ladders, and gear carefully to enable climbers to safely cross glaciers and crevasses.

Thorong La Pass is the highest pass in the world, standing at a commanding elevation of 5,416 meters above sea level. The fabled pass that separates Thorong Phedi from Muktinath is a significant obstacle that necessitates careful planning and extensive preparation.
One of the toughest parts of the walk is the route that goes from Thorong Phedi to Muktinath across the notoriously difficult Thorong La Pass, which can take up to 9 hours to cross. Trekkers’ physical and mental stamina is put to the strain by the difficult ascent and descent as well as the high altitude.
The harsh weather at Thorong La Pass is one important factor to take into account. Strong gusts usually start to kick up around 10 am, putting hikers in danger. It is crucial to start the journey extremely early in the morning, preferably before 5 am, in order to reduce this risk. Starting the walk early in the morning makes sure that hikers may cross the pass and get to the other side before the winds pick up, enhancing safety and reducing exposure to bad weather.

gangapurna, 7,455 meters tall in the annapurna range, is a technically and aesthetically rewarding ascent. it receives fewer trekkers than some of the other peaks of the range and offers a great option for any individual seeking a technical and isolated ascent. the summiteers are rewarded with panoramic views of annapurna i, annapurna ii, tilicho peak, and machapuchare. the mountain features steep rock and ice faces and requires high technical expertise and high-altitude acclimatization.
technical difficulty and mountaineering complexity
the ascent of gangapurna is highly technical, and ice climbing, crevasses, and rock steep faces are experienced in some parts. the climbers have to walk on glaciers, open ridges, and loose rocks, and therefore it is not an easy climb even for a seasoned climber. fixed ropes and crampons are necessary, and one has to be very well trained in alpine techniques. inclement weather like strong winds and sudden snowfall also contribute to the difficulty level of climbing.
panorama and remote wilderness
the gangapurna climb offers climbers unparalleled natural scenery, from green valleys to crevasses of rugged glaciers. the base camp trek takes climbers through nepalese villages of olden times, and they are given a glimpse into the life of the gurungs. as the winners move to the higher elevations, they encounter diverse landscape, from rhododendon forests to glacial slopes and rock moraines. gangapurna’s remoteness provides a serene and fascinating getaway from the city chaos deep in the himalayas.
tough climatic conditions and difficult terrain
gangapurna ascent requires patience and perseverance due to the harsh climatic conditions. the temperatures plummet to sub -30°c range, and strong winds and sudden storms are the biggest hurdle. the landscape is comprised of near vertical ice faces, loose scree slopes that can easily break away, and crevasses which require additional care when crossing them. avalanches and icefall also pose a danger, and therefore proper acclimatization of the climbers is necessary, as also cautious climbing.
base camp and expedition logistics
The Gangapurna Base Camp , at around 4,450 meters elevation, precedes a trek through the Annapurna Circuit. The Gangapurna Base Camp serves as a training camp where climbers rest, train, and acclimatize before progressing further for the climb. Senior Sherpas are responsible for establishing camps, managing supplies, and guiding climbers through the more challenging sections. Equipment such as ropes, harnesses, and oxygen cylinders for high altitude are essential to ensure a safe and successful ascent.
the climb starts with a climb to base camp, then a steady climb to the upper camps. camp 1, at around 5,600 meters above sea level, is accessed via an ice and rock climb. fixed ropes are used by the climbers to climb vertical faces and acclimatize to the upper land. between camp 1 and camp 2 at 6,400 meters, the climb is steeper, crossing glaciers and icefalls, and needs technical ability and stamina.
from camp 2, the climbers go up to camp 3 which is around 7,000 meters high and spend a night’s rest there before ascending to the top. this is the part which is marked by extreme cold and strong winds. the climb to the 7,455 meters high peak from camp 3 is the toughest phase of climbing, as the ice walls climb vertically and naked ridges. the final section calls for the climbers to be cautious, utilizing rope and ice ax to ascend the final bit of landscape. the peak provides the climbers with panoramic views of neighboring peaks and a sense of fulfillment after a difficult effort. gangapurna’s ascent is a high priority for older experienced climbers looking for a technical and less crowded alternative to other annapurna range peaks. it offers a true himalayan experience with breathtaking scenery, secluded trekking, and tough climbing that tests physical and mental limits.
Depending on the time of year and altitude, a permit for a Mount Gangapurna trip costs a different amount. The permit cost is fixed at USD 500 in the spring and USD 250 in the autumn. The permit fee is USD 125 during the summer and winter seasons. A permission system has been put in place by the government of Nepal in response to the large number of trekkers and climbers visiting Gangapurna. This approach successfully controls tourism in the area, which is home to a wide variety of unique plants and animals.
The rise in tourists puts the preservation of habits and culture from the past as well as the environment at danger. As a result, the permit system is essential for conserving the region’s distinctive cultural history as well as its uncommon flora and animals in their natural environment. The money raised from the permit fees is used to deal with a variety of problems, maintain the trails, and offer services to the tourists.
The Nepalese government has declared the region a restricted zone in order to protect these priceless resources, which include rare flora and wildlife, special natural characteristics, and distinctive cultural traditions. A permission, provided by the Nepal Mountaineering Association for excursions and other activities, is necessary for tourists exploring this area.
Above 7000 meters, traveling faces a number of potentially fatal difficulties. In such high altitudes, the weather is unpredictable, rendering conventional predictions useless and posing significant hazards. Mountain hiking or climbing expeditions are physically and emotionally demanding since the risks increase as one ascends higher. Avalanches and landslides are two common risks from nature. In addition, frostbite and altitude sickness are typical health problems that require urgent medical care.
Given these risky conditions, getting travel insurance is now a need before starting any expedition or climbing experience. Insurance can be extremely important in possibly saving lives and delivering timely rescue aid, even if it cannot completely avoid natural catastrophes or remove dangers. Additionally, it serves as a safeguard against financial difficulties in the event of unanticipated events.
It is crucial to do extensive research before picking a travel insurance provider and to pick a reliable business that specializes in meeting the demands of adventurers and climbers. An ideal insurance plan would provide complete protection for medical care, rescue operations, and emergency helicopter rescue.
It is significant to note that Graceful Adventure Travels Pvt. Ltd. does not engage in the selling of insurance or activities linked thereto. Therefore, before embarking on any adventurous excursions, it is advised that people independently study and get travel insurance from a reputable supplier. A safer and more secure adventure experience may be achieved with the correct insurance coverage.
There are many necessary equipment that trekkers have to carry during the treks. During the Gangapurna Expedition trekkers can stay at stars to local level hotels at Kathmandu and Pokhara. On the way they have to stay at local community house or tea house enjoying local cuisine but some places they have to stay on tent doing camping because at upper altitude we can’t find any permanent residence house so that trekkers have to carry necessary equipment and materials according to their stay .The necessary materials needed during the treks are as follows.

autumn is the ideal time for the gangapurna expedition, which coincides with the months of september, october, and november. the climate is consistent during these months, with clear skies and moderate temperatures. climbers can see the annapurna range in its best condition without the disruption of continuous storms or snowfall. the landscape stays consistent too, and there are fewer possibilities of avalanches compared to other times. autumn also provides the best sight, and therefore it is the best season for climbing as well as trekking at high altitudes. the weather is not wet, and the atmosphere is cool, so it is a safer and more pleasant time for climbers. spring (march to may)
Spring Season:
Temperatures begin to rise, and some of the ice melts, so the hills are not as steep to ascend. the rhododendron thickets along lower trail courses flower, coloring the hike. the melting snow, however, also brings unstable hills and intermittent avalanches on higher ground. climbers must watch for crevasses and migrating ice features. despite all these drawbacks, spring has good climbing weather, and the longer daylight hours leave space for more flexibility in attempts at the top.
Autumn Season:
Autumn is the best time for the climb of gangapurna. the weather is peaceful with clear skies, and visibility of neighboring peaks is good. temperatures are moderate, and the climb is easier than in winter. the trails are dry and safer, ruling out possibilities of accidents from loose grounds. the trekkers can witness breathtaking sunrise and sunset views over the annapurna range. the lower valleys are greenish in colour, with good walking experience along the way before one reaches upper levels. overall, autumn is the best trade-off of safety, scenery, and climber-favourable weather.
Summer Season:
summer is monsoon time, so heavy rain and unpredictable weather. trekking trails become muddy and difficult to traverse due to landslides and floods. cloud cover and mist cut visibility, and the path becomes more difficult to navigate.
at higher elevations, snow is heavy, with more likelihood of avalanches. insects and leeches also infest the lower valleys, making trekking extremely unpleasant. due to these risks, summer season is not recommended for the gangapurna expedition as risk outweighs the advantages.
Winter Season:
winter is the most challenging season for climbing gangapurna. temperatures drop, typically below -30°c at higher elevations. the strong winds and dense snow make it difficult to transport, and the extremely cold weather increases the likelihood of frostbite.the terrain becomes more hazardous with snowy drifts and icy boulders several feet deep. Even experienced climbers are intimidated by the ferocity of the weather, which demands specialty gear and caution. Although some are attracted to the solitude that accompanies winter, the inclement weather makes it one of the worst times of the year to attempt the hike.

Expeditions and mountaineering are thrilling activities with associated hazards and difficulties. Venturing over 7000 meters is a difficult endeavor that calls for extraordinary physical and mental health. The difficulty level is amplified and made much more challenging by the winding, steep, and snow-covered routes.
The risk of natural disasters rises at such high elevations, and the weather may change quickly, adding to the difficulties of trekking in the Himalayan area. Effective risk mitigation requires adequate training. Higher elevations provide an ideal habitat for altitude sickness and frostbite due to the thin air density and extremely cold temperatures. Without enough acclimatization and planning, these circumstances may cause people to change their plans.
An expedition requires careful preparation, extensive training, and progressive acclimatization. But the benefits are enormous. Throughout the voyage, the stunning scenery, spectacular vistas, and sheer size of the mountains serve as ongoing sources of excitement and inspiration.
It is crucial to emphasize safety at all times when doing climbs and excursions and to have a thorough grasp of the hazards involved. Although there are many obstacles to overcome, the appeal of the breathtaking scenery and the sense of success make the trip even more rewarding.
Mt. Gangapurna is located at Manang District of Nepal in between Annapurna III and Tilicho peak.

We provide a wide range of cozy lodging alternatives in cities, from 3 to 5-star hotels, to suit your particular needs and price range. We provide the chance to become fully immersed in the local culture in small rural towns and villages where there aren’t any five-star hotels.
