Located at the Dhaulagiri range of western Nepal, Dhorpatan hunting reserve is the only provisional hunting reserve in Nepal. This reserve lies in the Rukum, Myagdi and Baglung district which covers an area of 1325 sq km. It extends from 2850 to 5500 m in altitude. This reserve was initially set up in 1987 with sole purpose of satisfying the hunting needs of the Nepalese and foreign tourist.
Dhorpatan hunting reserve is also a sanctuary and home for rarest and endangered plant and animal species of the world. Dhorpatan hunting reserve differs from western world by allowing permit to kill the high population of wild species available in the reserve rather than canned hunting where animal are bred and made ready for hunting.
Dhorpatan, where only licensed hunting is allowed is main habitat of blue sheep. Other species of animals include leopard, Ghoral, wild boar, Langur, barking deer, Musk deer, Red Wolf Panda, Himalayan black bear and many more species. In this reserve only limited amount of species are allowed to hunt with special permit and fees. There is special and dedicated area of hunting in the reserve. Every year in a designated time, special license for hunting is issued by Department Of National Parks And Wildlife Conservation where only few hunting outfitters are selected and remain to fulfill their ultimate desire of hunt. This region however is famous for wildlife and bird enthusiast all around the year.
This ultimate destination to Dhorpatan is initiated via scenic drive from Pokhara and trek to the designated area. You will tent and camp in the region for designated period of time where you will hunt on the basis of permit and fees.

On this day, you’ll explore Kathmandu City. Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal which is famous for its religious sites. UNESCO listed Seven world heritage sites in Kathmandu valley; Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Swaymabunath, Boudhhanath, Pashupatinath, and Changunarayan temple. You’ll explore the historical sites in a presence of a tour guide who is professional and qualified. You can get a brief knowledge about the culture, tradition, Festivals, Art, architecture, and lifestyle of local people. After completing your tour, you’ll drive back to your respective hotel.

After having breakfast early in the morning, you drive to Tribhuvan International Airport and depart to Dhorpatan from Kathmandu. It takes 1:40 mins to reach Dhorpatan by chartered Heli over hills and valleys. You’ll meet a local wildlife guide and park staff who will provide detailed information about the park.

Dhorpatan is derived from Nepalese words ‘dhor’ and ‘patan’ which translates as the marshland. Dhorpatan is characterized from high temperate region to sub alpine and alpine region. This section includes various types of flora and fauna. Dhorpatan is divided into six blocks for hunting inside the region.
This region however is more alpine and mostly covered with ice and snow. Common plant species of the region include fir, pine, birch, rhododendron, hemlock, oak, juniper and spruce. This region is mostly covered with pastureland.
The endangered bird species of the region include pheasants and partridges. Similarly there include the species of chirr pheasant, nine colored Danphe
Dhorpatan hunting reserve is an isolated part of an western part of the conserved area where still the lifestyle away from western influence is seen. This region shows a unique and mixed lifestyle of people both from Tibetan and hilly descendant where they do farming, animal rearing and trade husbandry in the region. Still primitive lifestyle is seen with the use of timber and firewood. The major ethnic group of the region includes Magar, Thakali, Brahmin, Chettri, Sunar and Tibetan origin and Magar people.
Dhorpatan area provides a magnificent view of the Himalayan vistas such as Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. fishtail and Mt. Manaslu range. the trek to this area is followed by Himalayan trails, pristine nature, picturesque mountain ranges, diverse flora and fauna. From religious point of view, here lies a famous Hindu shrine Dhorbaraha which lies near the bank of Uttaraganga river. This site is most visited in Janai Purnima in the month of August.
This region is accessible via drive and trek. Initially the drive is taken from various part of country to Baglung from where 3-4 days trek is done to reach the region.
