Yet, From Boksi Taal to Namun La Base Camp, the trekkers’ path is hard-won but fulfills every promise of reward. Mighty peaks crowned with snow present themselves with every turn. One of the toughest days of the trek, walking over the high Namun La Pass, is an equally incredible experience. From the pass, the trail plunges steeply and requires an early departure. Traversing down from the high mountain terrain brings the trail into the Marsyangdi Valley today. The trekkers will pass through wooded areas and traditional villages. The trek ends in Koto, a village connecting to the Annapurna circuit route. Lodgings here are decent and[,] comparatively speaking, the landscape is already a lot lusher than in the past few days.

11

Koto-to-Meta trail proceeds along the Nar Khola in narrow gorges and shady pine forests. Reaching this place of the Annapurna region, however, far removed from large trekking crowds, is awe inspiring. On moving towards Meta, behold expansive alpine meadows interspersed with distant snow peaks.

Activity: Trek to Meta
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accomodation: Teahouse/Lodge

12

Today, the trail leads on towards Phu, the hidden valley. Fields and suspension bridges, combined with stark places, lead to one of Nepal’s isolated villages. Tonight you will lodge in a local teahouse, immersing yourself in the lives of Phu’s residents.

Activity: Trek to Phu Village
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accomodation: Teahouse/Lodge

13

After spending the day walking on trails, it leads us to Kyang-another remote village from Phu. This segment of the trek is very short and easy where from the top-you can see-that promises to be the most beautiful view views of the Phu Valley…. you might see some blue sheep and Himalayan birds. Kyang should not have many people but gives that real Himalayan experience with its rustic houses and spiritual ambiance.

Activity: Trek to Kyang
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accomodation: Teahouse/Lodge

14

You spend the day acclimatizing in Nar Village. This village is very much full of Tibetan culture and surrounded by beautiful summits. Short-level hikes and interaction with locals allow for deepening one’s ideas of what this region has for their traditions. This particular rest day is meant for crossing the Kang La Pass in the days to come.

Activity: Rest day Nar Village
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accomodation: Teahouse/Lodge

15

Today, we are going to cross the difficult Kang La Pass. An early morning start is required because the ascent is pretty steep until the summit of the pass, from where there is a beautiful view of the Annapurna range. After taking in all the sights, you will then begin to descend to Nagwal, a beautiful village nestled in the valley. Long but rewarding.

Activity: Trek to Nagwal
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accomodation: Teahouse/Lodge

16

The trail from Nagwal to Manang does not present a challenge for most people. Pine forests punctuate the trail with the small hamlets left behind after it joins Manang, which is one of the most populous villages in the area and a much-visited stop along the Annapurna Circuit route. Here, decent lodges, bakeries, and scenic views, particularly of Gangapurna and Annapurna III, await visitors. It is a perfect place for resting and resupplying.

Activity: Trek to Manang
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accomodation: Teahouse/Lodge

17

From Manang, the journey will lead you to Tilicho Base Camp through the mystical Tare Gompa. The path makes its way through remote valleys and climbs high ridges. Tare Gompa is a tiny spiritual retreat, while the journey there will provide one with solitude and stunning vistas. At the end of the day, you will arrive at Tilicho Base Camp, lying at the foot of Tilicho Peak.

Activity: Trek to Tilicho Base Camp
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accomodation: Teahouse/Lodge

18

The climb from Base Camp to High Camp is short but extremely challenging. The path is extremely rocky and steep, for which extra caution is to be observed while climbing. The air becomes thinner and the terrain rugged as you reach higher up. This is by far the best place to view Tilicho Lake and other surrounding peaks, readying one for the crossing of the Mesokanto La Pass.

Activity: Trek to Tilicho High Camp
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accomodation: Teahouse/Lodge

19

Another big pass crossing on the trip. Very steep and challenging ascent of Mesokanto La Pass. But once at the summit, views are completely unmatched. Thereafter descends to Chauri Kharka through dramatic landscapes. Hence in a very basic place, the end of this long day is at a rather secluded settlement.

Activity: Trek to Chauri Kharka
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accomodation: Teahouse/Lodge

20

Today, the descent makes for the trip to Jomsom, a great town in the Mustang region. From the lofty, alpine landscape, one soon enters this arid land with the Kali Gandaki Gorge in view. There you will have good food, a hot shower, and a proper hostel to go back to. Welcome back to a more developed environment after more than a week in the wild.

Activity: Trek to Jomsom
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accomodation: Guesthouse

Three Passes Annapurna Trek - Trip Information

Major Attractions of the Three Passes Annapurna Trek

The trek on Three Passes Annapurna Trek is not a technical trek. It is a journey into valleys, passes, and vibrant different culture having nature inside. You will find your trek into magnificent terrains touching the deep-rooted traditions, getting into a life of physical adventure blended with a beautiful culture. The trek takes you across high-altitude passes: Namun La, Khang La, and Mesokanto La precious with panoramic views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges as well as leading trekkers through untouched villages, hidden lakes, and tranquil alpine beauty.

Phu Village – An Undiscovered World in the Mountains

Phu lies at an altitude of 4080 meters, deep inside Nar-Phu Valley. The village brings one of the rare opportunities of stepping into one of those secret Himalayan worlds which have never come close to modernity. Ancient Tibetan culture and raw nature merge at the village, deep inside gigantic cliffs and snowy peaks. Stone houses, fluttering prayer flags, and the proximity of Buddhist monasteries give an authentic and peaceful view of life in the high Himalayas to Phu. Rugged and isolated, the way to Phu yields a reward that is unparalleled in terms of peace and spiritual beauty.

One walks into Phu away from the modernity, which is how the villagers still live today by yak herding and seasonal trade. It also holds a lot of promise as an acclimatization site while admiring the most breathtaking views of Himlung Himal and other peaks. Quiet, cheerful company with the locals makes this village one of the most special parts of the Three Passes Annapurna Trek.

Phu Village

Nar Village – Culture and Tranquility: Above the Clouds

This elevation of Nar Village at 4150 meters makes the place a para of Tibetan culture within the high Himalayas of Nepal. The village with its distinctive stone houses, colorful prayer flags, and Buddhist shrines feels sacred and untouched. The trekker usually gets amazed at the way this community has preserved its traditions being in such a remote place. The landscape surrounding the village is no less spectacular, with vast open skies and huge towering peaks in all directions.

This is the trek to Nar: a rewarding, hard climb through twisting trails and steep ridges. From there, trekkers can spend a day getting used to the change in altitude while exploring the village, meeting locals, visiting the monastery, or just soaking up the peaceful surroundings. This peaceful place gives an opportunity to prepare mind and body before crossing Khang La Pass. Nar Village is a lot more than just a rest stop; it’s a cultural treasure on the trail.

Nar Village – Culture and Tranquility: Above the Clouds

Tilicho Lake and Base Camp—The Sacred Hidden Lake

A portion of its travel could reach the world’s highest lake- Tilicho Lake, at a staggering height of 4919-meter high into the sky. Surrounded by glaciers and snow-covered peaks, Tilicho is considered a sacred lake for Hindus and Buddhists. The base camp approach from Manang via Tare Gompa is very rugged but gorgeous in alpine scenery. It touches a little more heart with trekkers moving inside the Annapurna range and offers that much solace from commercial routes.

Trekkers who come to Tilicho Base Camp will have the time to hike the final distance to lake as well as nearby Tilicho High Camp. Cliff walls, icebound terrain, and the setting are magnificent. Beyond Mesokanto La trek adds spiritual and nature qualities into the journey. The combination of the sacredness that is Tilicho Lake and the stark, powerful landscape around it make this a truly soul-stirring stop on the Three Passes Trek.

Tilicho Lake and Base Camp—The Sacred Hidden Lake

Namun La Pass – A High-Altitude Gateway to Wilderness

At the elevation of 5560 m, Namun La Pass emerges as the first and the highest point along the trek of Three Passes. However, what describes this pass best is its wild untouched trails and panoramic views of Annapurna, Lamjung as well as Manaslu ranges. To get to the pass it takes days of walking deep through forests, camps far from one another, and eventually crossing a mostly barren highland. It is a physically taxing journey but offers so much inspiration by the end of it with some mountain landscapes as well as a feeling of deep isolation.

Walking across Namun la would be as if one is walking at the edge of the world. This is barely used by trekking agencies; hence, every trekker is treated to the sound of wind and snow beneath their feet. The view from the top would seem to go on forever across the snow-frosted mountains, making it one of the most stunning passes in the Himalayas. This is where the adventure actually begins and sets the mood for the entire trek.

Namun La Pass – A High-Altitude Gateway to Wilderness

Manang- A Lively Settlement in the Heart of Annapurna

Being at a height of 3540 meters, Manang is also one of the most vibrant villages on the Annapurna trekking routes. This is considered one of the cultural and acclimatization center that prepares trekkers before they go on higher altitudes. The village is surrounded by towering peaks, which include Annapurna II, III, and Gangapurna, boasting all basic facilities like tea houses, bakeries, and local markets. Manang is not just a stop; it is a place that can be explored in culture, recharge, and appreciate the very beautiful natural surroundings.

People could have a day’s hike either to Gangapurna Lake in the vicinity or to nearby monasteries, giving them a deeper understanding of what spiritual life in the region is all about. Manang combines culture, tradition, and nature; hence it welcomes visitors to this beautiful site. From here, trekkers may rest and prepare for the next stages on Tilicho Base Camp and Mesokanto La. In many respects, Manang is the last outpost of comfort before plunging deep into the wild Himalayas.

Manang- A Lively Settlement in the Heart of Annapurna

Best Season for Three Passes Annapurna Trek

The best times for the Three Passes Annapurna Trek are the spring (March-May) and the autumn (September-November) seasons. During these months, the weather is generally stable, the sky clear with moderate temperatures, perfect for high passes and the unobstructed view of the Himalaya. In springtime, rhododendrons bloom beautifully, while in autumn, the mountains are crystal clear and visible after the rainy season. However, each season brings its unique beauty and challenges, allowing trekkers to experience two worlds in the Annapurna region.

Spring (March-May)

Spring is one of the most popular periods for the Three Passes Annapurna Trek, with good temperatures and great views of blossoming landscapes. Trails lined with rhododendrons and wildflowers make the journey more colorful. Mountain views are simply stunning from sunny days and long hours of daylight. Snow in the high passes like Namun La, Khang La, and Mesokanto La begins to melt and may be crossed with great care. Wildlife is more active, and the forests come alive. Such a beautiful time for trekkers who want to have the experience of nature at its lively colorful phase.

Summer/Monsoon (June to August)

By summer, monsoon rainfall would grip the Annapurna region, making the season relatively unpleasant for trekking. By this time, the trails would be quite muddy/slippery, and landslides may affect many a path-from the drive route and lower trekking routes. The mountains also get covered-up most of the time, while leeches may make their presence felt here and there among the forest sections. The season could, however, transform into one big green blotch dotted with the odd trekker. Some would love to explore the quieter trail-an option that few in their right mind would consider-during this season with extra preparedness, extra caution to survive and enjoy.

Autumn (September-November)

Autumn is beyond doubt the most popular season for the Three Passes Annapurna Trek. After the monsoon, the wind changes to the north bringing a fresh, clean atmosphere with ever-clearer views of the mountains. Temperatures remain moderately pleasant, neither too hot nor too cold-a relief for an extended day of walking. The Dashain and Tihar festivals will fall during this season, giving a cultural touch to the villages along the way. The high passes remain generally snow-free, making trekking easier and thus receiving increased traffic. A time of equilibrium in both weather and beauty.

Winter (December-February)

From December to February, the conditions become perilous in the high Himalaya, especially over these passes, which are heavily snow-bound and extremely cold. Upon this time of year, temperatures dip heavily, notably at high elevations, whereas some remote area lodges may close due to the fewer visitors. The trails are peaceful, a perfect setting for the solitary trekkers’ enjoyment. Lower altitudes will still be open for trekking but crossing passes like Namun La or Mesokanto La will be risky due to the deep snow and possible avalanche hazards.

Food Service on the Three Passes Annapurna Trek

The Three Passes Annapurna Trek spills into unrestricted culinary experiences filled with simplicity, warm hospitality, and cultural authenticity. While passing from one village to another, trekkers are offered wholesome meals from the local produce: rice, lentils, spinach, potatoes, and fermented vegetables. Dal bhat is the face of each day, assaulted by pickles, seasonal greens, and meat or egg whenever possible. On the chilly side-up in places like Tilicho Base Camp or Namun La, noodle soups would be a warm welcome in addition to some Tibetan tea-one of the best ways to keep out the chilliness. The food offered is freshly prepared and fills an empty stomach after a high-altitude trek, even though sometimes the food may not be so lavish. Eating local food every day helps to reflect on just how these Himalayan communities manage to stay alive with minimum resources but rich traditions.

There will be a rustic style of servicing, yet the food’s warmth and cultural depth shine through. Among the delicacies one may encounter are buckwheat pancakes and tsampa porridge, each deeply entwined other local ethnic traditions. These are dishes that reflect the Tibetan and Gurung food cultures influencing the diet of this area. Lessening of variety with increasing altitude does not mean easing on healthy and simple preparation. Many trekkers find this simplicity in the food refreshing and sharing the same calm spirit as the surrounding landscape. The emphasis placed on their cooking despite the limited infrastructure creates meaning in every bite. With such closely engulfing dining experiences, food is more than sustenance; it becomes a memory of Himalayan hospitality.

Accommodation Services on the Three Passes Annapurna Trek

The accommodation service provided on the Three Passes Annapurna Trek varies, beginning in 4 star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara with all the comforts of the modern world, and proceeds to mountain lodges and tea houses at the trekking. These village lodges, typically family-run, give a basic, uncomplicated shelter, with simple beds, blankets, and shared bathrooms. Warm hospitality will be found here, especially in Sikles, Koto, and Manang, with perhaps attached toilets at lower altitudes. The higher one goes towards remote passes like Namun La or Mesokanto La, the facilities begin to dwindle gradually. When present, electricity is from solar energy, just enough for low-wattage lighting and the very occasional charging of electronic devices. The lodges offer quite an interesting immersion into mountain life and space to unwind after long days.

The temperatures drop considerably higher up, and the general conditions of accommodation are rugged but clean and maintained. Rooms may lack heating and steady power supply, so trekkers are encouraged to carry sleeping bags and power banks. Cold and limited water is available in some places, where hot water is provided for a small charge. Despite the minimum luxury, the warm and friendly nature of hosts adds warmth and friendliness to the stay. A trekker would be sh…

Transportation Services of Three Passes Annapurna Trek

Three Pass Trek meets your fancy with the ethereal and occasionally ride-bumpy category of drives from Kathmandu to Pokhara and further through into Sikles, the trek trailhead. They usually employ jeep or bus, whatever makes sense for a group size and preference, winding through the hills, valleys, and even glimpses of rural lifestyles. Usually private jeep for smaller groups is used, while larger groups normally share a mixed transport, such as minibus, to minimise costs. The roughness of the road is more as it brings one closer to the mountains, made exciting till reaching further up where all transport is on foot, while baggage would be carried by porters or pack animals like mules and yaks. Moreover, there are no roads in isolated stretches such as Phu and Tilicho regions, which make trekking the only route ahead. Thus, total nature immersion experience. Each step on the trail connects trekkers to the land and culture deeper than any drive may offer.

After completing the trek in Jomsom, travellers return to Pokhara by jeep or shared transport depending on the road’s conditions or availabilities. From Pokhara, comfortable drive or flight again brings back trekkers to Kathmandu. These routes are very well handled by the experienced trekking agencies, thus making it as smooth as possible, at times even pre-arranged from the very beginning. That means all are just within trekking; wonderful! Most times, these resting villages also have tea, light snacks, or just areas where they can stretch from the long jaunt complete with views. It is really rugged but adds to the authenticity of experience-the right combination of comfort where necessary and adventure when required. Every ride and every walk becomes part of the story of traversal of the three passes.
