From 60 to 8849 meters above sea level, the topography of Nepal varies which gives rise to variable climatic conditions. Teri La Pass Trek varies in altitude from 1000m to over 5500m above sea level, hence, acclimatization is a part of the trek.

We can say that above 3000 meters, altitude sickness may be a problem we might have to deal with. Our team of experts is committed to the good acclimatization of trekkers by adopting the policy of gradual ascent. Plenty of fluids, such as water, hot soup, and tea, must be taken to help avoid altitude sickness. Time will be provided in the schedule for the proper acclimatization of the body. Even physically fit people can develop altitude-related symptoms, and hence we plan the trek with daily ascents from 300 to 1000 meters to minimize risks.

The safety and health of our trekkers come first, and hence we will take every precaution to make this a safe yet unforgettable experience.

Trekking Difficulties in Teri La Pass Trek

The Teri La Pass Trek is rated as difficult due to the high terrain, steep ascents, and descents that are involved in trekking; it is also very remotely located. Several reasons account for the rating of the difficulty order of the trek, which includes the following:

Altitude: The altitude of the trek is over 5500 meters at Teri La Pass, and altitude sickness could easily set in. It requires proper acclimatization to deal with the low level of oxygen.

Weather and Climate: The weather is unpredictable, cold, and with strong winds at high altitude. Heavy snowfall in winter normally shuts off most of the trail.

Topography: Steep ascent, rugged trails, river crossings, and glacier tracts are part of this trek. Narrow paths in parts of the trek.

Remote Location: Teri La Pass Trek is in a part of Nepal which is less visited by trekkers; teahouses and other facilities are not easily available. It is camp-based in most areas where lodges are not available.

Even though it has a number of setbacks, the experience is quite rewarding with great views of the Annapurna and Mustang unique landscapes and remote trekking. This experience, coupled with adequate preparation in terms of physical fitness on such treks and guidance, would definitely be a bonus.

Teri La Pass Trekking Permit

Trekking, generally, in Nepal requires permission under conservation for nature and culture. Teri La Pass Trek entails the following multiple permits:

Trekker’s Information Management Systems Card: It is required for all the trekkers trekking in Nepal. These can be taken in Kathmandu or Pokhara, the Nepal Tourism Board.

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): As parts of this trek involve crossing through the Annapurna Conservation Area, one has to issue it. Costs: around 3000 NRP, which would also include one passport-size photograph.

RAP: Teri La Pass is a restricted region and one needs to get a special permit. The cost of a RAP for 500$/pax/first 10 days, every subsequent day $50 extra will be charged to a person. This trek has to be done with a registered trekking company; alone it is not allowed.

These permits ensure a balance in the sustainability of the trekking regions of Nepal at the same time as providing access to one of the most remote and beautiful treks of the country. Proper planning and obtaining necessary permits in advance are immensely crucial for smooth and enjoyable trekking.

Electricity and Communication on Teri La Pass Trek

You will be getting 24/7 electricity and internet services if you are in the urban areas. Your trek journey might face some power cuts in the rural village parts. You will be asked to pay extra cost in few teahouses or lodges where you stay because it is remote and they have to pay more for electricity and internet services. As this is at a higher altitude, the accessibility of electricity and internet will be very minimal during the trek. It looks better to recharge all your electronic gadgets at the tea houses or lodges wherever possible.

ATM and Currency Exchange

There are so many ATMs and currency exchange centers at Kathmandu and Pokhara cities, from where the tourists can have Nepalese currency quite easily. Many of these facilities will be very poorly available in rural areas along the trekking route. So, only Nepalese rupees will be acceptable in those areas. The trekkers will have to change over to the Nepalese currency in lieu of foreign exchange before embarking on a trek. Adequate local currency goes a long distance in purchasing all items of basic food, water, and supplies. The local money changers in Kathmandu or Pokhara can be contacted to efficiently sort this out for you.

Tips are normally offered at the end of the trek; however, trekkers can also offer tips to the hotel staff/lodge employee whatever they receive satisfactory service.

This amount is dependent on the service quality, time, and personal satisfaction. The tips are not obligatory but a tradition. If due to some financial constraints, tipping isn’t possible then verbal ‘Dhanyavad’ will also work as gratitude.
